DAVIE, Fla. \u2014 Police on Friday identified the suspect in a murder-suicide that they said occurred near a Davie beauty school earlier this week.<\/a><\/p>\n

The victim, 20-year-old Aileen Martinez<\/a>, was a cosmetology student at the Aveda Institute, located at 4186 S. University Drive, just north of Griffin Road. <\/p>\n

Davie police said 25-year-old Jose Orpi, Martinez\u2019s ex-boyfriend, fatally shot her shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday in the school parking lot before turning the gun on himself. He was hospitalized and later died.<\/p>\n

Police emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing. <\/p>\n

\u201cNo additional information will be released at this time due to the ongoing and active nature of the investigation,\u201d a spokesperson with the Davie Police Department wrote in a statement to Local 10 on Friday. \u201cDetectives are continuing their work to ensure all facts are accurately established and appropriately reviewed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Close friends described Martinez as a passionate musician who performed with bands across Florida and dreamed of opening her own salon. <\/p>\n

Her family has set up a GoFundMe<\/a> to help cover funeral and burial expenses.<\/p>\n
