{"id":13917,"date":"2025-10-21T13:44:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T13:44:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/13917\/"},"modified":"2025-10-21T13:44:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T13:44:13","slug":"east-end-market-original-la-femme-du-fromage-closing-up-shop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/13917\/","title":{"rendered":"East End Market original La Femme du Fromage closing up shop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lafemmedufromage.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">La Femme du Fromage<\/a> has been a part of <a href=\"https:\/\/eastendmkt.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">East End Market<\/a> since Day One, 12 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s an entire school career for our children,\u201d says Tonda Corrente, La Femme herself. \u201cIt\u2019s time for La Femme to graduate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And so by roughly month\u2019s end, this original of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2023\/11\/01\/orlando-east-end-market-10-year-anniversary-rife-gideons-lineage-freehand-goods\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Audubon Park Garden District food hub that helped put Orlando on the world\u2019s culinary map<\/a>, will shutter its downstairs operations.<\/p>\n<p>Admittedly, she says, it\u2019s a decision she struggled with for the past two years, but ultimately, one that will help her grow in ways both personal and professional, to move into other realms that a seven-day retail operation simply won\u2019t allow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not the end of La Femme du Fromage, though,\u201d notes Corrente, whose La Femme du Fromage Upstairs has quietly taken over the space formerly held by her boutique.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, La Femme is Corrente herself, not the market stall, and she\u2019s set to focus on her upstairs dining room, an all new, not-quite-undergound cheese club she calls \u201cThe SpeakCheesy,\u201d and a burgeoning culinary travel business that will see her bringing guests across the ocean to discover for themselves the cheese- and winemakers with whom she\u2019s developed relationships for roughly two decades.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy travels abroad this summer included a lot of soul searching,\u201d Corrente told the Orlando Sentinel, \u201cand I knew when I came home, I\u2019d be making significant positive changes\u2026 I\u2019m so excited to share these places and people, to develop La Femme du Fromage and see it transcend into something new.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Charming, yet cheesy. (Courtesy La Femme du Fromage Upstairs)<\/p>\n<p>Spain and Portugal are already on the calendar for 2026 with Italy, England and France behind that, but even before the year\u2019s end, fans will see lots of action upstairs as the Goddess of Gouda continues operations in an all-new way.<\/p>\n<p>Each month, she says, The SpeakCheesy will have a selection of exclusive cheeses that fans will not find anywhere else in town. Guests need only sign up for her newsletter (<a href=\"http:\/\/lafemmedufromage.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lafemmedufromage.com<\/a>) to stay in the know, pre-order and set a pickup time.<\/p>\n<p>Popups, featuring her beloved Grilled Cheese Happy Hours, will continue, as well, once the chrysalis of the shop has shaken free, but at Upstairs, guests at her dinners \u201cwill really get to know me,\u201d she promises, as she looks forward to getting back to the intimate dinners she hosted at the start of her career with Tonda\u2019s Kitchen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Perhaps fans will find La Femme du Fromage's &quot;Dirty Elvis&quot; on the menu at her next grilled cheese popup. (Courtesy Lisa Wilk\/TasteCookSip.com)<\/p>\n<p>Opulent furnishings initially meant for her pre-COVID-19 pandemic planned foray into Orlando\u2019s North Quarter have been relocated, finding purpose in this 12-seat space that \u201cwill be like having dinner in my home,\u201d says Corrente, whose family\u2019s own china graces the broad, beautiful table from Wasburn Imports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look forward not only to creating curated dinners where I get to pour the wine, where we expand our palates and get into more refined dishes,\u201d she says, \u201cbut also having other chefs in the space to use it as their own chef\u2019s table and incubator space. And those looking for deals on phenomenal cheese take note: There\u2019s about to be a fire sale of sorts (because her many, highly exclusive selections are fire).<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s full of appreciation, too, and looks forward to seeing familiar faces come by as things wind down.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2024\/03\/01\/somebody-feed-phil-orlando-crocante-east-end-market-capa-domu-hinckleys-fancy-meats-sampaguita-se7enbites-kookn-with-kim\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Somebody Feed Phil\u2019 features \u2018The REAL Orlando\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have so much gratitude,\u201d says Corrente, her voice colored with emotion. \u201cI didn\u2019t expect to be here this long, and the number of people who still come through, to say <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2024\/03\/01\/somebody-feed-phil-orlando-crocante-east-end-market-capa-domu-hinckleys-fancy-meats-sampaguita-se7enbites-kookn-with-kim\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">they saw us on Netflix and are here for \u2018the Phil tour,\u2019<\/a> so genuinely excited and happy to be here, and the ones who come through and remind me how much they\u2019ve always loved my store and don\u2019t live nearby anymore but have to come back for their cheese fix \u2026 it\u2019s been so beautiful to have so many people, and all of Orlando, continue to support and encourage me over the years.
