After a brief flirtation with snowflakes<\/a> Saturday afternoon, Tallahassee awoke in an ice box as the sun rose Sunday morning.<\/p>\n Overnight, the mercury fell to 22 degrees at Tallahassee International Airport. But it felt like about ten degrees with the wind chill. A rare Extreme Cold Warning clings to the area through noon as National Weather Service meteorologists track an “intense Arctic blast” that is pushing through “with dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills.”<\/p>\n \u25b6If you get a photo or video of Tallahassee on ice, email us at\u00a0news@tallahassee.com<\/a>. Please include your name and where the photo and video were taken.<\/p>\n “After a frigidly cold night, we will slowly warm to the low to mid- 40s this afternoon,” meteorologists wrote in their morning discussion. “However, we expect breezes around 10-15 mph during the day, which will keep wind chills in the 30s for this afternoon. So, another chilly day.”<\/p>\n Temps will plunge back into hard freeze territory overnight and into Monday morning with residents starting the work week commute at about 24 degrees.<\/p>\n Did the cold break any daily records in Florida or Tallahassee?<\/p>\n It’s still too early to tell as official numbers don’t land at the NWS until tonight.<\/p>\n But forecasters say Miami cracked its 117 year record cold by a single degree. It was 35 this morning and was 36 degrees in 1907.<\/p>\n Closer to home, it seems unlikely.<\/p>\n The record low in Tallahassee for Feb. 1<\/a> was set at 20 degrees in 1977. So unless colder temps emerge, we may be two degrees shy of that.<\/p>\n
