TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Being a student athlete at the collegiate level takes a lot of hard work. It\u2019s early mornings, late nights, time management and the need to stack good games with good grades, but for FSU women\u2019s basketball standouts Sydney Bowles and Avery Treadwell it may as well be rocket science.<\/p>\n
The two pair their time at the Tucker Center with the Seminoles with demanding degrees at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, Bowles a senior majoring in Civic Engineering while Treadwell, a junior is going for a degree in Chemical Engineering.<\/p>\n
\u201cGrowing up I was always a math and science based girl,\u201d said Bowles. \u201cMy dad actually is an engineer.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was something I was naturally good at,\u201d remarked Treadwell of taking to chemistry in high school. \u201cIt really clicked in my brain\u201d<\/p>\n
But as a basketball future in college became clear for both players, so too did the demands of higher education. Both armed with the knowledge that two big dreams would require one big commitment.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes you don\u2019t get a lot of sleep, sometimes you miss out on things, but I know at the end of the day this is something that I want to do,\u201d remarked Bowles of the balance and sacrifice. \u201cIt\u2019s going to pay off in the end.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cYou have to be on top of it and know when you\u2019re leaving, when you\u2019re not here, and when all the things you have to take care of are,\u201d added Treadwell of the demands of DI basketball mixed with a rigorous study schedule.<\/p>\n
Bowles is a guard while Treadwell is a forward, the two are used to playing different positions on the same team, so while they don\u2019t share a major, they both know what it\u2019s like to help keep each other in the game.<\/p>\n
\u201c[It\u2019s nice] having somebody who can just share the struggles and we could just laugh about it. Nine times out of 10 if we\u2019re both losing our mind, it\u2019s probably at the same time,\u201d joked Bowles of having someone to share the experience with in garnet and gold. \u201cJust somebody who can help you through those hard times.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cI definitely feel like she understands me and when I\u2019m like crashing out over school or something,\u201d quipped Treadwell. \u201cShe knows why I feel that way and is someone that I can rant to and understands.\u201d <\/p>\n
Both continuing to excel at one tough full court press on and off the floor.<\/p>\n
Bowles, Treadwell and the \u2018Noles look to ace their next test on the court Sunday at rival Clemson. Tip-off is set for 4 PM.<\/p>\n
