{"id":140386,"date":"2026-02-02T07:13:25","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T07:13:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/140386\/"},"modified":"2026-02-02T07:13:25","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T07:13:25","slug":"29th-annual-kumquat-festival-in-dade-city-postponed-to-march","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/140386\/","title":{"rendered":"29th Annual Kumquat Festival in Dade City postponed to March"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DADE CITY, Fla. \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/kumquatfestival.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The 29th Annual Kumquat Festival in Dade City has been rescheduled to March 8<\/a> &#8220;due to high winds and unsafe weather conditions&#8221; forecast for Saturday, officials with the Greater East Pasco Chamber of Commerce announced on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Officials issued the following statement:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to high winds forecasted for tomorrow and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our vendors, volunteers, sponsors, and attendees, the 29th Annual Kumquat Festival will be postponed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Kumquat Festival is a popular event celebrated every year, typically on the same date as Tampa\u2019s Gasparilla pirate fest, where attendees can celebrate the \u201clittle gold gem of the citrus industry\u201d with treats inspired by the unique fruit along with a children\u2019s activity area, classic car show, craft kumquat beer and wine, and activities for all ages.<\/p>\n<p>Greg Gude, General Manager of Kumquat Growers, said the event is his busiest weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just a shame that the weather\u2019s coming in, but we understand you can\u2019t be out on the asphalt in 50 mph wind gusts with little pop-up tents,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We\u2019ve had them here when a little gust of 20 mph fly them over the fence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vicki Wiggins, the president and CEO of the East Pasco Chamber of Commerce, said even amid cold weather last year, about 30,000 visited.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So it\u2019s a huge economical impact for our downtown,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur heart breaks for everybody that this is really going to be a hardship for some of them. We\u2019re hoping that they can at least freeze some of the items or, maybe, they can still be open tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Businesses count on residents to still purchase the tiny, orange citrus. Kumquat growers said they will be open this weekend despite the festival being postponed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll still have kumquats for sale so we\u2019ve got them.
