Police have identified the man who they said shot and killed his ex-girlfriend before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide at a Davie beauty school<\/a> earlier this week.<\/p>\n

Jose Orpi, 25, has been identified as the suspect in Tuesday’s shooting outside Aveda Institute South Florida, Davie Police said Friday.<\/p>\n

Family members on Thursday identified the victim as 20-year-old Aileen Martinez<\/a>, of North Miami.<\/p>\n

Martinez was a student at Aveda Institute studying cosmetology and had studied at a Miami music school for the past four years, often performing with local bands.<\/p>\n

She leaves behind her parents, a brother and a sister.<\/p>\n

Police said Orpi and Martinez had previously been in a relationship, and that he shot her inside a vehicle in the Aveda Institute parking lot.<\/p>\n

The shooting prompted a massive police response to Aveda Institute, with a stretch of University Drive shut down and nearby schools placed on lockdown as a precaution.<\/p>\n
