{"id":141572,"date":"2026-02-03T03:41:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T03:41:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/141572\/"},"modified":"2026-02-03T03:41:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T03:41:10","slug":"bill-to-eliminate-vehicle-registration-decals-in-florida-passes-1st-committee-nbc-6-south-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/141572\/","title":{"rendered":"Bill to eliminate vehicle registration decals in Florida passes 1st committee \u2013 NBC 6 South Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A proposal to eliminate the need to place yellow vehicle registration stickers on license plates has started to move in the Florida Legislature.<\/p>\n<p>The House Government Operations Committee unanimously backed the measure (HB 841), which would have registration renewals recorded electronically.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to save government money, which in turn will save taxpayer dollars,\u201d said bill sponsor Rep. Tom Fabricio, R-Miami Lakes.<\/p>\n<p>A House staff analysis doesn\u2019t put an economic impact figure on the bill but notes the Miami-Dade Tax Collectors Office estimated going digital would save the office $2.5 million annually to record registrations and renewals.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal was backed by Gov. Ron DeSantis in December, when he tweeted \u201cget it done!\u201d to Fabricio.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement uses the validation sticker to verify that a motor vehicle is legally registered. However, the staff analysis notes many law enforcement officers have the capability to verify motor vehicle registrations electronically using automated license plate recognition systems.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the registration period is 12 months, but an applicant may opt for an extended registration period of 24 months.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal has just one more committee appearance scheduled before reaching the floor.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate version (SB 982) by Sen.
