Cold weather brought a busy weekend for firefighters across Northeast Florida who dealt with everything from house fires to burst pipes to a brush fire that caused evacuations for 20 homes.<\/p>\n
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said that from Friday night to Monday morning, during the frigid temperatures of the arctic blast that hit our area, crews responded to 15 working fires.<\/p>\n
Those included five residential structure fires, two mobile home fires, one commercial building fire, five brush fires and a 5-acre woods fire. They also helped Clay County with a structure fire.<\/p>\n

Here for you, one call at a time. pic.twitter.com\/GcqW1eCzzf<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 THEJFRD (@THEJFRD) February 2, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n A spokesperson for JFRD said some of the fires were related to people trying to warm their homes as temperatures dipped well below freezing overnight.<\/p>\n Clay County also said its crews were busy all weekend, responding to more than a dozen house and debris fires, along with several broken pipe calls across the county.<\/p>\n Clay Fire Rescue posted some heating safety reminders before the weekend:<\/p>\n The department posted the following note on social media from the Clay County Utility Authority after firefighters responded to \u201cquite a few\u201d water line breaks over the weekend:<\/p>\n If the leak is at our meter, please call our office immediately to dispatch a technician. You can reach that emergency line at (904) 272-5999. If the leak is in your yard or residence beyond the connection at the meter, you are responsible for the repair. If you are uncertain, please contact our office to have a customer service representative assist you. <\/p>\n St. Johns County Fire Rescue was also incredibly busy over the weekend, but a spokesperson said thankfully, none of their calls turned out to be working structure fires.<\/p>\n They did respond to several reports of smoke odors from people not knowing how to use a fireplace, broken pipe calls and fire alarms, the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n Altogether, SJCFR responded to nine calls on Friday, 12 on Saturday and 55 on Sunday.<\/p>\n At the same time, firefighters in Putnam County were dealing with a 300+ acre brush fire<\/a> that forced at least 20 homes to be evacuated on Saturday.<\/p>\n Copyright 2026 by WJXT News4JAX – All rights reserved.<\/p>\n
