JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 A mobile home fire on Collins Road Tuesday morning left a woman dead, marking the first fatal fire in Duval County in 2026, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.<\/p>\n
Chief Aaron Bebernitz said crews were dispatched to the home at 5:49 a.m. When they arrived, Bebernitz said they found “heavy fire” coming from the home.<\/p>\n
Once firefighters entered the home, Bebernitz said they encountered “excessive volumes of debris and clutter inside.” The fire was brought under control at 6:23 a.m.<\/p>\n
At 6:42 a.m., Bebernitz said crews found the woman, whose identity was not released, dead inside the home.<\/p>\n
Although the Bureau of Fire, Arson & Explosives Investigations is investigating the cause of the fire, Bebernitz said early indications are that the fire wasn’t started intentionally.<\/p>\n
