Firefighters are monitoring a wildfire that has been contained on the Westside.<\/p>\n
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said the fire is near Falkland Road East and Lothmore Road.<\/p>\n
>>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<<<\/a><\/p>\n The Florida Forest Service – Jacksonville District is also responding to the fire with two firefighting tractor-plow units.<\/p>\n FFS said the fire is contained with no visible flame, the fire\u2019s forward progress has been stopped, and crews have created a security fuel break around the fire\u2019s perimeter.<\/p>\n Crews are working to mop up the fire and are asking people to avoid the area if possible.<\/p>\n Action News Jax spoke to a neighbor who called 911 about the fire.<\/p>\n [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/a>]<\/p>\n \u201cMy wife and I we were leaving this morning and she had an appointment as we were backing out we saw a lot of smoke and then we a lot of flames coming up,\u201d Windell McClain said. \u201cWe went around and took a closer look and it kept getting worse and the flames was just getting higher and higher.\u201d<\/p>\n McClain said he got out of his car and started telling his neighbors what was happening as the fire started spreading quickly.<\/p>\n He said the fire burned one neighbor\u2019s fence.<\/p>\n [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter<\/a>] <\/p>\n Click here<\/a> to download the free Action News Jax news and weather apps, click here<\/a> to download the Action News Jax Now app for your smart TV and click here<\/a> to stream Action News Jax live.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Firefighters are monitoring a wildfire that has been contained on the Westside.
