If you\u2019ve already seen the movie, memorized the memes and can hum \u201cMy Heart Will Go On\u201d on command, it\u2019s your turn to re-board\u2014with a little more context and a lot more tech.<\/p>\n

\u201cTitanic: An Immersive Voyage\u201d<\/a> has opened in Boynton Beach (less than an hour from Miami), turning one of history\u2019s most over-familiar tragedies into a walk-through experience that\u2019s part museum, part time machine.<\/p>\n

The show focuses on the details that typically get lost between Hollywood romance and the headline everyone knows. You\u2019ll revisit the ship\u2019s glamour and the catastrophe, but the exhibit also widens the frame to include the bigger cast around the sinking: Titanic\u2019s sister ships, Olympic and Britannic; the rescue ship Carpathia; and the Californian, the vessel that famously remained nearby as the crisis unfolded. It even gives the iceberg its own origin story, tracing its journey from its \u201cbirth\u201d in the polar region to its dissolution in the Atlantic after the disaster.<\/p>\n

The experience uses \u201cnever-before-seen\u201d 3D views, video animations and other immersive elements to put you inside the story via life-sized recreations and hands-on moments. One highlight: climbing into a lifeboat to relive the ship\u2019s final, dramatic moments (brace yourself; it\u2019s designed to be emotional).\u00a0And for anyone who\u2019s ever watched deep-sea Titanic footage at 1 am and felt that weird mix of awe and dread, there\u2019s a virtual reality \u201csubmersible dive\u201d that takes you 2.5 miles below sea level to see the wreck site up close, without getting anywhere near the North Atlantic.<\/p>\n

The exhibit is running at South Florida PBS (3401 South Congress Avenue in Boynton Beach). Tickets are $45 for adults and kids 12 and under are free.
