atmospheric water generator to fuel resiliency research, lab expansion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last Friday, the University of North Florida installed an atmospheric water generator technology that will allow the university to conduct research towards protecting infrastructure from threats and disasters, according to a UNF press release.<\/p>\n<p>The WellSpring100 is designed to \u201cproduce clean, potable water by extracting moisture from the air\u201d and is located at the JEA\/UNF Sustainable Solutions Lab, according to the press release.<\/p>\n<p>To manufacture the WellSpring100, UNF collaborated with a Florida-based sustainable-technology company, <a href=\"https:\/\/captivaverde.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Captiva Verde Corporation<\/a>, and a Wisconsin-based manufacturer, Origen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The press release explained that this project between private industry heads and UNF launches the university\u2019s efforts to expand the JEA\/UNF Sustainable Solutions Lab into a Center for Utility Security and Resiliency (CUSR).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With this development, UNF follows in the footsteps of several other Florida universities that have implemented efforts to conduct resiliency research.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.fiu.edu\/2023\/researchers-to-use-machine-learning-to-ensure-critical-infrastructure-resilience-and-cybersecurity-in-new-center-funded-by-the-department-of-homeland-security\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Florida International University<\/a> received a $1 million grant to \u201cuse machine learning and AI to develop novel solutions for critical infrastructure resilience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The University of Central Florida has its Resilient, Intelligent and Sustainable Energy Systems (<a href=\"https:\/\/rises.research.ucf.edu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">RISES<\/a>), which focuses on renewable energy research and development of electricity grids.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmu.edu\/about-fmu\/climate-resiliency-center\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Florida Memorial University<\/a> opened its Climate Resiliency Center in 2022, prioritizing sustainability and renewable energy.<\/p>\n<p>According to the UNF press release, the CUSR will expand the lab\u2019s current projects with greater research into clean and renewable energy, water security, advanced transportation, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and education.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Plans for the CUSR will eventually welcome researchers, graduate students, and classrooms, according to the press release.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The CUSR will integrate interdisciplinary fields including engineering, sciences, computing and business to \u201cadequately support research into utility resiliency and security in the Northeast Florida region and beyond,\u201d the press release said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs our region continues to grow, so does the need for reliable, adaptable systems that can withstand environmental, economic and technological pressures,\u201d said UNF President Moez Limayem in the press release. \u201cThis work positions UNF at the
