{"id":143183,"date":"2026-02-04T10:22:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-04T10:22:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/143183\/"},"modified":"2026-02-04T10:22:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-04T10:22:07","slug":"paws-in-the-park-returns-to-lake-eola-this-weekend-for-32nd-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/143183\/","title":{"rendered":"Paws in the Park returns to Lake Eola this weekend for 32nd year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thousands of dogs will bring their humans out to Lake Eola this weekend as an annual tradition and fundraiser returns to Central Florida.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/petallianceorlando.org\/\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/petallianceorlando.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pet Alliance<\/a> invites animal lovers to the 32nd edition of <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.qgiv.com\/event\/2024pawsinthepark\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/secure.qgiv.com\/event\/2024pawsinthepark\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paws in the Park<\/a> on Saturday. Visitors can enjoy the signature pet costume contest featuring \u201ccelebrity\u201d judges and cash prizes followed by a full day of activities for humans and canines.<\/p>\n<p>Festivities include an agility course, a beer garden, food trucks, shopping and plenty of pet-centric vendors. Pet Alliance\u2019s mobile vet unit will be on-site with free vaccinations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have 127 vendors and food trucks coming this year, more than we\u2019ve ever had. We\u2019re expecting a pretty big crowd with that much interest from the vendors,\u201d said Stephen Bardy, Pet Alliance\u2019s executive director. \u201cThe costume contest is always a hit. (Patrick Connolly\/Orlando Sentinel)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have the occasional cat; one year we had a kangaroo,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>For existing pet owners, the festival has many treats and accessories to explore.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a whole host of dog and cat merchandise, whether it\u2019s collars, leashes, dog beds, litter boxes and a whole host of things that people make themselves,\u201d Bardy said. \u201cThere are dog treats, training services, boarding facilities, grooming facilities and veterinarians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event also features adoptable pets from Central Florida rescues and shelters. (Patrick Connolly\/Orlando Sentinel)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOrlando has a robust animal community, but even more so by being completely behind adopting dogs and cats from shelters and rescues,\u201d he said. \u201cI get to see some of my old foster puppies that are now grown and I run into people that have adopted from us. It feels like a little family reunion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The festival serves as the organization\u2019s second-largest fundraiser of the year, aiming to collect $215,000 to support Pet Alliances\u2019s general operation. This includes veterinary care and medical staff, shelter for animals, food and medication that helps care for 4,000 dogs and cats annually.<\/p>\n<p>Pet Alliance will also celebrate the opening of its <a href=\"https:\/\/petallianceorlando.org\/almosthome\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new 25,000-square-foot shelter<\/a> later this spring.<\/p>\n<p>Bardy encouraged attendees, whether they\u2019re pet owners or not, to come to the event prepared.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"A furry costume contest participant sits in a kissing booth during Paws in the Park, an annual festival and fundraiser for Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, at Lake Eola Park in 2020.
