In body cam video obtained by Miami ABC affiliate, WSVN-TV,<\/a> a Miami Beach police officer offers a deal with Perry Smith, a persistent violent offender, to get him out of town. <\/p>\n\u201cWould you be interested in going to Georgia?\u201d an officer asks Smith.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes,\u201d said Smith.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd staying with your mom?\u201d asked the officer. \u201cThat\u2019s something we can help you with. We\u2019ll pay for your ticket to go back to Georgia.\u201d<\/p>\n
The TV station reported that Smith has a long criminal record in the Miami-Dade area. His latest arrest was over the summer when Smith was accused of assaulting German journalist Pit Gottschalk, who was in town covering the FIFA Club World Cup. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe beat me two times,\u201d Gottschalk told the station. <\/p>\n

His past victims include officers and even a judge. <\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re going to die a thousand deaths,\u201d Smith told the judge during a bond hearing, the TV station reported. <\/p>\n
\u201c(He\u2019s) one of the most violent individuals in our community,\u201d Miami Beach Police spokesperson Christopher Bess told the station about Smith.<\/p>\n
The police department said they recently spotted Smith near their headquarters and offered him a new option. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe offered him resources,\u201d Bess said.<\/p>\n
Officers connected Smith with a homeless resource program that allows people to be relocated when a family member agrees to take them in. <\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re going to take care of you, OK?\u201d the officer told Smith on the body camera video.<\/p>\n
Smith was offered a one-way bus ticket back here to Georgia to live with his mother. Officers said she loved the idea.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe welcomed him with open arms,\u201d Bess said.<\/p>\n
The station asked Bess what would happen if Smith returned to Miami Beach. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe will be arrested,\u201d Bess said.<\/p>\n
