ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. \u2014 The St. Petersburg Police Department (SPPD) said a pedestrian who was struck and critically injured on Tuesday died in the hospital.<\/p>\n

Police said 44-year-old Robert Smith of St. Petersburg was walking between vehicles stopped at a traffic signal in the 4800 block of 22nd Ave. S. shortly after 9 a.m. on Feb. 3.<\/p>\n

SPPD said Smith was not crossing at a marked crosswalk.<\/p>\n

According to the report, a Jeep heading west on 22nd Ave. S. hit Smith and he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

The Jeep driver stopped immediately and remained at the scene, per the report.<\/p>\n

Police said Smith died from his injuries at the hospital on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

SPPD said the investigation remains open.<\/p>\n
