HOLLYWOOD, Fla. \u2014 One firefighter was hospitalized Wednesday morning after responding to the scene of an apartment building fire in Hollywood, first responders confirmed.<\/p>\n
According to Hollywood Fire Rescue officials, the fire was reported at 5:48 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 2700 block of Johnson Street.<\/p>\n
Officials said firefighters arrived at the scene and found an active fire coming from an AC unit on the second floor of the building, at the rear.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fire extended into the apartment but was quickly extinguished,\u201d a spokesperson for the fire department told Local 10 in an email. <\/p>\n
First responders confirmed that no occupants were inside the affected unit at the time and no civilian injuries were reported.<\/p>\n
One firefighter, however, was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital \u201cfor observation of injuries unrelated to the fire,\u201d the spokesperson said. <\/p>\n
The American Red Cross will assist the homeowner of the affected apartment unit.<\/p>\n
The resident, Kenris Butler, told Local 10 News that she was at work when she received a call from someone, telling her that her apartment was on fire.<\/p>\n
\u201cI left for work early in the morning and when I got to work, my manager came up to me to say to get home — the fire master was trying to reach me because my place is on fire,\u201d Butler said. <\/p>\n
She said she is thankful no one was inside at the time. <\/p>\n
\u201cExtremely thankful that I do have my life,\u201d Butler said. \u201cUnfortunately, I only have the clothes on my back (and) in my car … But I\u2019m grateful to have my life — other things, I can get –those are material things.\u201d<\/p>\n
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.<\/p>\n
