The affidavit says the suspect’s driver’s license was suspended for traffic charges and had expired in 2012.<\/p>\n

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. \u2014 A New Jersey man was arrested for going almost 115 mph in Pinellas County, while also having a driver’s license that expired 14 years ago, an affidavit reads.<\/p>\n

The Pinellas Park Police Department said this happened after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday when they spotted 43-year-old Leandro Rojas going 113 mph in a 55 mph zone on U.S. 19.<\/p>\n

Once officers were able to pull Rojas over for a traffic stop, he reportedly refused to speak, showed multiple signs of being impaired, refused to take a field sobriety test and refused to provide breath samples.<\/p>\n

The affidavit says Rojas’ license was suspended for traffic charges and had expired in 2012.<\/p>\n

Rojas was charged with dangerous excessive speeding, refusal to submit to testing, driving under the influence, driving while driver’s license is suspended or revoked and operating a motor vehicle while driver’s license is expired for more than six months. \u00a0He is currently in the Pinellas County Jail.<\/p>\n

Last year, a “super speeder<\/a>” law went into effect, targeting drivers going 50 mph or more over the posted speed limit, or who travel at 100 mph or higher, regardless of the speed limit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Under the law, those violations are no longer infractions \u2014 they are now criminal offenses.<\/p>\n

The first offense can carry up to 30 days in jail, a fine of $500 and a mandatory court appearance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A second offense within five years could mean up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000, along with a license revocation of up to one year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The affidavit says the suspect’s driver’s license was suspended for traffic charges and had expired in 2012.
