Pinellas County Center for the Arts at Gibbs High School<\/a>\u00a0in St. Pete.<\/p>\nBoth her parents and uncle graduated from Pinellas County Center for the Arts.<\/p>\n
And thanks to teachers like Steve Beverage, Gauthier’s dream of becoming a working artist is that much closer.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m the first generation going to college for the arts,\u201d said Gauthier.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m still learning,\u201d said Steve Beverage.<\/p>\n
Beverage has been teaching at PCCA for 15 years \u2014 not only instructing students, but showing art as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s really starts here. We\u2019re a community of artists who support each other,\u201d said Beverage.<\/p>\n
Beverage and several other PCCA teachers are part of an upcoming art show at the Werk Gallery in St. Pete, including Amber Quimby.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll of us here are practicing artists, and I think that\u2019s key because we understand the creative process,\u201d said Quimby.<\/p>\n
Quimby is also a PCCA alumna. \u201cI had art classes here in this building,\u201d said Quimby, \u201cand I had some amazing instructors \u2014 really wonderful mentors.\u201d<\/p>\n
Together with students, instructors created public art murals, shepherding a new generation of artists as they continue to grow their own repertoire.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like I\u2019m humbled I get to do this,\u201d said Beverage. \u201cI mean, I get to work with these kids, and watch them grow and develop as artists. And it\u2019s celebrating over 40 years of excellence in arts magnet programming. And to be a participant is really a blessing.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ST.
