TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A jury deliberated for nearly two hours Wednesday before finding 36-year-old Cameren Evans guilty as charged.<\/p>\n
Evans was on trial for aggravated manslaughter in the January 2023 death of her three-year-old son, Enrique Evans. <\/p>\n
Court documents say the toddler died of \u201cfentanyl toxicity.\u201d<\/p>\n
Both Evans and her former boyfriend, Tony Balcom, are facing charges in the child\u2019s death, but are being tried separately. <\/p>\n
Court documents say Balcom was the child\u2019s primary caregiver and officers found several different kinds of drugs at his home the night the toddler died.<\/p>\n
Evans\u2019 sister, Sheqwena Evans, testified Wednesday that she had previously spotted scales on Balcom\u2019s kitchen counter. <\/p>\n
Sheqwena Evans testified that her sister Cameren called her just a couple of weeks after Enrique was born.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was having, you know, a hard time. She wanted to, you know, try to get herself together. She wanted to go to rehab, and she asked me if I would come and pick him up, if I would keep him, and I didn\u2019t mind,\u201d she testified.<\/p>\n

Evans\u2019 sister said she took care of the baby for just a few months before Evans brought him back to Tallahassee.<\/p>\n
Evans\u2019 sister testified that she and several other family members had offered to care for the toddler. <\/p>\n
\u201cDid you agree that you would take custody and care for him?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI did. I\u2019ve always been vocal about … I\u2019ll get him. I don\u2019t mind, and I understand you\u2019re going through things,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd how did the defendant respond?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was like it went in one ear and out the other,\u201d her sister testified.<\/p>\n
Testimony in Evans trial spanned two days, and the jury deliberated for nearly two hours before reaching a verdict.<\/p>\n
A case management hearing is now scheduled for next week. <\/p>\n
Balcom is set to stand trial on Feb. 16.<\/p>\n
