{"id":144587,"date":"2026-02-05T10:58:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T10:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/144587\/"},"modified":"2026-02-05T10:58:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T10:58:11","slug":"democrat-jennifer-jenkins-challenges-vulnerable-randy-fine-says-she-can-flip-cd-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/144587\/","title":{"rendered":"Democrat Jennifer Jenkins challenges &#8216;vulnerable&#8217; Randy Fine, says she can flip CD 6"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/755380-jennifer-jenkins-formally-launches-u-s-senate-campaign-against-ashley-moody\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">former Senate candidate<\/a> is still running for federal office, but closer to home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/776876-jennifer-jenkins-drops-out-of-senate-race-endorsed-alex-vindman\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Jennifer Jenkins<\/a>, a onetime member of the Brevard County School Board, is launching a campaign against U.S. Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/773265-randy-fine-seeks-to-annex-greenland-and-make-it-a-state\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Randy Fine<\/a> in Florida\u2019s 6th Congressional District in east-central Florida.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In taking on Fine, one of the most outspoken members of Congress who has been a staunch ally of President\u00a0Donald Trump, Jenkins is betting the formula she used to win big in a Trump +17 electorate in a previous cycle can translate to the wave election Democrats anticipate in 2026, and allow her to do something meaningful along the way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMy process of getting into the Senate race in the first place was not about me personally. It was about where I felt like I could make a big difference. I felt like it was important for us to have a candidate in and have them in early and show that Florida was still viable,\u201d she said, before explaining her decision to run against the first-term firebrand who was elected in a Special Election last April.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAs I assessed the race and as other competition had come into it, I really focused on what\u2019s important for this party and for the state, which is unifying and moving forward in the right direction. And so I looked at where I can make the biggest difference right now,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moffitt.org\/lp\/impact\/#foodasmedicine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-775892 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Food-As-Medicine-_Moffitt2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"100\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jenkins believes she can make the biggest difference against Fine, someone with whom she\u2019s had conflicts in the past back in Brevard and someone whom she also believes wouldn\u2019t have gotten elected last year without a lot of external help.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI believe that Democrats need to flip the House, that this seat can absolutely be in play with me as a candidate, and I think I\u2019m the right person to win,\u201d Jenkins told Florida Politics on Wednesday, before she entered the race officially.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jenkins said Fine \u201chas always been divisive (and) provocative\u201d and is a \u201cdanger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHe\u2019s exactly what we don\u2019t want in politics. He\u2019s exactly the reason why people hate paying attention to politics. It\u2019s all about self-interest and self-preservation, and he doesn\u2019t focus on the issues that actually matter to people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Primary among those issues is what Jenkins calls an \u201caffordability crisis,\u201d something Fine doesn\u2019t address.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vieraforflorida.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-753828 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Luis-Viera-Ads-728x90-px.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI don\u2019t know if there has been a single instance in which Randy Fine has talked about that issue and has addressed that issue. He\u2019s stuck in culture war fights. He\u2019s constantly just worried about getting press and getting on camera. And having a history with him, knowing his quirks, knowing what actually drives him, I think is really important for a candidate who is running in this race,\u201d Jenkins said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jenkins <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/committee\/C00918474\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">raised a little more than $350,000<\/a> for her Senate campaign, retaining slightly more than $100,000 cash on hand. That number is far below the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/candidate\/H6FL06258\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">nearly $1 million<\/a> Fine had to spend at the end of 2025, yet far above the totals amassed by other Democrats in the field.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The candidate is \u201cproud\u201d of her fundraising as a Senate candidate and believes that money will work well in getting her message out in what currently is a sprawling district that runs from St. Johns County to Daytona Beach and the Orlando suburbs and the Ocala area out west.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">That\u2019s especially true given Fine\u2019s flaws, she believes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s a good amount of money for a congressional. The one thing that we need to stay focused on is the fact that Randy Fine is a very vulnerable opponent. He barely won that Special Election. The Republican Party nationally and statewide had to dump millions of dollars in order for him to hold on to that seat, and he\u2019s not going to have that availability right now in the Midterm,\u201d Jenkins predicted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of seats that are up. There are a lot of seats that are vulnerable. They can\u2019t pour those millions of dollars into his district just for him to hold it. I think it\u2019s important to recognize too that donors want to invest in the races that we can win. This is one of them, and donors are definitely going to be attracted to a race that takes out the most divisive Congressman we have in the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Redistricting, which is expected later this year, doesn\u2019t faze Jenkins, who believes the lines could be more Democratic, given that Republicans could move lines to favor embattled U.S. Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/777488-bale-dalton-outraises-cory-mills-by-more-than-5-to-1-margin\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Cory Mills<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His CD 7 abuts CD 6.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/member\/district\/cory-mills\/M001216\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Mills\u2019 district<\/a>, a more competitive map than CD 6, gets more Republican voters, they will have to come from somewhere.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She also believes the issues she runs on will translate with independents and even Republicans.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s about cost of living, affordability, health care, insurance costs, so the dynamic of those lines won\u2019t change what the issues specifically are in terms of registration numbers and, and the viability of the race right now as it stands,\u201d Jenkins said. \u201cI believe that this is a winnable seat, it\u2019s a winnable race against an opponent who is super divisive. But you know, should they redraw the lines, I see it drawing more in our favor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jenkins also believes that Fine\u2019s divisiveness in his own party could help her in the General, saying that Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/729936-squash-squish-fine-desantis\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Ron DeSantis<\/a> has called the Congressman \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ocala-news.com\/2025\/11\/02\/even-gov-desantis-thinks-u-s-rep-randy-fine-is-repulsive-so-why-did-marion-county-elect-him\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">repulsive<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s not just DeSantis,\u201d Jenkins said. \u201cRandy Fine is divisive within his own party, and I think that\u2019s important to highlight. It\u2019s difficult enough to get things done in Washington when you are not willing to cross over the aisle and talk to the other side.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jenkins said it\u2019s quite possible that DeSantis\u2019 fulminations about Fine may be used in ads against the Congressman down the stretch.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A former Senate candidate is still running for federal office, but closer to home.
