Today,\u00a0Google.org<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 the company\u2019s philanthropic program \u2013 announced $2 million in\u200b funding to\u200b\u00a0Miami Dade College\u00a0(MDC) to grow the\u00a0National Applied Artificial Intelligence Consortium\u00a0(NAAIC), an MDC-led collaboration with Houston Community College (HCC) and Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) to foster the growth of AI professionals across the nation.<\/p>\n

\u201cMiami Dade College is at the forefront of AI education nationwide,\u201d said\u00a0Miami Dade College President Madeline Pumariega. \u201cThis transformative funding from Google will significantly amplify our efforts through the NAAIC to equip educators with the necessary AI tools to strengthen the infrastructure and prepare students for the AI-powered workforce of tomorrow, not only in Miami but across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

The announcement was made during a panel on \u201cNavigating the AI Era: Strategies from Classroom to Career\u201d held at MDC\u2019s AI Center in downtown Miami. The panel featured MDC President Madeline Pumariega, Ben Gomes, Google\u200b\u200b\u2019s\u200b\u200b Chief Technologist\u200b for Learning & Sustainability\u200b, City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez; and Florida State Rep. Mike Giallombardo.<\/p>\n

Through this \u200b\u200bfunding\u200b\u200b, the NAAIC will broaden its efforts to train educators, enhance digital infrastructure, and develop AI-centered curriculum resources for both college and K\u201312 faculty. New professional development programs and certifications \u2014 including Google\u2019s Generative AI \u200b\u200bfor Educators course \u200b\u200b\u2014 will help educators teach emerging AI technologies with greater confidence and relevance.<\/p>\n

Since its inception a year ago, the NAAIC has delivered impressive results:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

1,056 faculty trained\u00a0
\nRepresentation from 46 states, Washington, D.C., and two U.S. territories\u00a0
\n321 academic institutions engaged\u00a0
\nOver 10,000 hours of AI training delivered in partnership with industry leaders\u00a0
\nOver 31,000 students impacted nationwide\u00a0<\/p>\n

MDC has also partnered with Google for Education to co-develop innovative tools using Gemini and Agentspace that enhance student engagement and success. These AI-powered solutions will personalize learning experiences, improve retention, and optimize student support systems across MDC campuses.<\/p>\n
