The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the motorcyclist, identified as a man in his late 40s, hit the back of a tractor-trailer car hauler on New Kings Road.<\/p>\n
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 A motorcyclist was killed in a crash at the intersection of Soutel Drive and New Kings Road Thursday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n
JSO Sgt. Robert Hungerford said the motorcyclist, identified as a man in his late 40s, was traveling southbound on New Kings Road at the same time that a tractor-trailer car hauler was traveling north on the road.<\/p>\n
Hungerford said the crash happened when the car hauler made a left turn to get on Soutel Drive. The motorcyclist reportedly hit the back of the car hauler.<\/p>\n
Hungerford said members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department then responded to the scene and pronounced the motorcyclist dead upon arrival.<\/p>\n
According to Hungerford, the driver of the car hauler is cooperating with the ongoing investigation into the crash, and is unlikely to face any charges as Hungerford said a witness told police it appeared that the motorcyclist ran a red light just before the crash happened.<\/p>\n
This crash marks as the 17th traffic fatality in Duval County in 2026, and the fifth involving a motorcyclist.<\/p>\n
“Just be very careful, watch for motorcyclists,” Hungerford said. “Motorcyclists, please wear your helmets and high-visibility gear.
