Ararat Baptist Church.<\/p>\n<p>JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 The City of Jacksonville announced on Thursday that it has been selected as part of a four-state expansion to the <a href=\"https:\/\/civilrightstrail.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">U.S. Civil Rights Trail<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With the upcoming additions in Virginia, Louisiana, Tennessee and here in Jacksonville, the goal of the project is to &#8220;offer travelers new destinations to explore pivotal stories, places, and voices that shaped the nation\u2019s civil rights movement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The city says that as part of the expansion, the Jacksonville Civil Rights Trail will be created, consisting of place-based markers and educational resources around different streets and neighborhoods across the city.<\/p>\n<p>The first marker will be placed in front of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church later in February. After the month ends, the city says it will &#8220;install three to five markers per month.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are honored to be chosen as one of the U.S. Civil Rights Trail\u2019s 2026 expansion locations and grateful to everyone who worked so hard to make it possible,\u201d said Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan. \u201cEach of the Jacksonville sites being added to the Trail will add unique and powerful stories that will deepen our understanding of the Civil Rights Movement and the role our city played in it.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The City of Jacksonville says that the first trail marker will be placed in front of Mt.
