Head coach Bridgette Gordon says her confidence\u00a0remains\u00a0high as the Florida A&M women\u2019s basketball team\u00a0looks to\u00a0right the ship following three straight\u00a0losses.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Rattlers\u00a0suffered\u00a0two\u00a0back-to-back\u00a0losses\u00a0this past week,\u00a063-50\u00a0against Alabama A&M and 75-64 against Alabama State.\u00a0The Rattlers have an overall record of 5-15 and are eighth in conference play\u00a0after\u00a0dropping\u00a0four of their last five games.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gordon\u00a0says she has\u00a0confidence her team\u00a0will\u00a0finish strong.\u00a0The\u00a0Rattlers\u00a0have\u00a0had to navigate\u00a0injuries while the coaching staff is still figuring out the rotations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI still have a lot of confidence in the\u00a0team,\u201d Gordon said.\u00a0\u201cWe\u00a0haven\u2019t put a full team out on the floor yet.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The coaching staff\u00a0says\u00a0they are\u00a0working to make sure their rotation is where it needs to be.\u00a0Cornelia Ellington, a\u00a0freshman\u00a0guard, suffered an injury earlier this season.\u00a0Gordon wants to get everyone back in the groove of things with the rotation\u00a0on\u00a0her return.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had a rotation then we had injuries, now\u00a0it\u2019s back to me and the staff to figure out how we rotate,\u201d\u00a0Gordon\u00a0said. \u201cI\u2019m thanking God that we are getting back healthy at the right time in the season.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gordon\u00a0says she\u00a0is basing everything off her players\u2019 performance in practice\u00a0and\u00a0emphasizing the areas of weakness and where the team\u00a0lacks\u00a0efficiency.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have to keep working where we are getting our butt kicked\u00a0at,\u201d Gordon said. \u201cWe turn the ball over at crucial times.\u00a0Crucial\u00a0turnovers or missed defensive assignments.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Growth exists, even during tough seasons. The\u00a0Rattlers\u00a0began the season 0-10 in nonconference play before going on a three-game winning streak in SWAC play.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gordon is confident that her team can work through their mistakes and bring home more wins.\u00a0\u00a0Gordon says her\u00a0focus is correcting these things in practice and showing the results on the court.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe never feel\u00a0like\u00a0we\u2019re out of a game, we\u00a0have been through a lot of tests,\u201d\u00a0Gordon\u00a0said. \u201cIt\u2019s up to us for us to get off the better starts.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gordon says\u00a0confidence\u00a0hasn\u2019t\u00a0been an issue for the\u00a0team,\u00a0and\u00a0she wanted to check in with them to see where they stood\u00a0with confidence.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI went around the circle yesterday in practice and asked them how confident they are,\u201d\u00a0Gordon\u00a0said.\u00a0\u201cAnd they were very confident that we can still do what we want\u00a0to do\u00a0this season.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Rattlers\u00a0reached\u00a0the SWAC tournament for the first time in program history during Gordon\u2019s first year in\u00a02024.\u00a0However, the team\u00a0fell short of a playoff berth in 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Rattlers\u00a0face\u00a0a\u00a0crucial\u00a0slate at home this weekend. They\u00a0host\u00a0Prairie View A&M and Texas\u00a0Southern,\u00a0this will be the first\u00a0time\u00a0this season\u00a0FAMU plays\u00a0either\u00a0team.\u00a0<\/p>\n
