TALLAHASSEE \u2013 The Florida State men’s tennis team is set to host No. 8 Texas A&M on Friday at 5:00 p.m. at the Indoor Tennis Courts.<\/p>\n
Last season, the Seminoles handed the Aggies an upset loss, with Texas A&M entering the game ranked No. 9, marking the program’s first true top-10 road win since 2013. FSU came into the match having won eight of its opening 10 doubles points and earned a doubles court win in all doubles matches during that time of the season.<\/p>\n
During his first season as a Seminole,\u00a0Corey Craig<\/a>\u00a0was looking to find his way back into the second set after a confident 6-3 first frame. Craig stole a break point and knotted the second set at 6-6. The Florida native found new life, bursting into a 5-1 tiebreak lead before his opponent’s strike carried over the line on match point to seal the victory. Craig claimed his first-ever Court 1 victory as a Seminole.<\/p>\n Texas A&M comes into this season’s matchup against Florida State with a 5-0 overall record, with its latest 4-2 win coming from conference foe No. 18 Duke to punch their ticket to the ITA National Indoors Championship.<\/p>\n The newest ITA rankings were released on Wednesday.\u00a0Erik Schiessl<\/a>\u00a0(No. 52) and\u00a0Luis Felipe Miguel<\/a>\u00a0(No. 82) remained in the top 100, while\u00a0Azariah Rusher<\/a>\u00a0checked in at No. 91. Miguel and Schiessl ascended into the top-20 as the No. 15 doubles team in the nation, while Rusher and\u00a0Justin Lyons<\/a>\u00a0were ranked at No. 71.<\/p>\n Live stats will be available on Seminoles.com.<\/p>\n LAST TIME OUT: Florida State took the early 1-0 lead on a hard-fought doubles point. The new duo of\u00a0Gabor Hornung<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Oren Ezerzer<\/a>\u00a0defeated Andres Timini and Lorenzo Claverie at No. 3 doubles 6-4.\u00a0 No. 43\u00a0\u00a0Miguel<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Schiessl<\/a>\u00a0earned their sixth win of the season with a 7-4 triumph over Henery Jefferson and Tanapatt Nirundorn to clinch the point.<\/p>\n In singles action,\u00a0Mohammad Alkotop made short work of Nirundorn, winning in straights (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 5 court position. Following Alkotop, Miguel picked up his own 6-1, 6-3 straight set victory in the No. 2 spot, setting up Hornung for the deciding match. The newcomer wrapped up his grueling three-set battle on court six. The Hungarian native won the first set 6-1, before Timini found leverage in the second set (6-1).
