Broward Animal Care says three dogs at risk of being put down <\/p>\n
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. \u2014 At least three dogs are at risk of being put down at Broward Animal Care.<\/p>\n
One of the dogs, Tammy, could be euthanized within days because of her behavior. Staff members believe she can no longer remain at the shelter and needs to be in a home with a loving family.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s deteriorating,\u201d said Doug Brightwell, division director for Broward Animal Care. \u201cWe\u2019ve had to remove her toys and her bedding, which are usually stress reducers for dogs. Instead, she\u2019s using those stress-producing tools in a destructive manner.\u201d<\/p>\n
Two other dogs, Truffle and Ding Dong, are also in need of adoption.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re trying to get them out of a building and into a home or rescue environment to kind of get them stabilized so they can go on to find a permanent home,\u201d Brightwell said.<\/p>\n
Charlie was another dog on the brink of being euthanized until Darrin Malacusky and his wife adopted him after seeing a social media post.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey had a perfect video, put it that way,\u201d Malacusky said. \u201cHe was just very calm and tame, and he looked like he needed a good home.\u201d<\/p>\n
The couple hopes other families will step forward to save the lives of dogs in need.<\/p>\n
Brightwell said staff will continue evaluating the other dogs in critical care. The deadline could be extended, but if the dogs don\u2019t make positive progress, a decision could come sooner.<\/p>\n
