TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV\/ Florida Capital Bureau) – A new state bill may prohibit driving with cannabis.<\/p>\n
This bill would enforce penalties for any person found driving with an open container of medical marijuana.<\/p>\n
This is similar to the law that\u2019s already in place for open alcohol containers.<\/p>\n
If a person violates the bill three times, their license may be revoked.<\/p>\n
Opponents of the bill, like Rep. Kelly Skidmore, D-Delray Beach, are concerned about the danger it can present to people who rely on the medication.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo have my medication on me should not be a violation of the law of any kind. To be impaired by that medication, then it should be,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The bill\u2019s sponsor, Rep. Dean Black, R-Jacksonville, talked about how common marijuana possession is in the state of Florida.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is so widespread that now I think to everyone\u2019s amazement, it is the most common thing where we have a fatality with an intoxicated driver,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The bill still has more hearings before the House can vote on it.<\/p>\n
A Senate version hasn\u2019t been scheduled or held a hearing.<\/p>\n
