Police officers arrested Joanel \u201cTyson\u201d Herard on Thursday morning at North Miami Avenue and 79 Street near his home in Miami\u2019s Little River neighborhood, according to a police report. <\/p>\n
The woman reported she had met Herard, 37, \u201ca few months ago,\u201d was in a \u201cromantic relationship with him\u201d that seemed \u201cnormal at first\u201d until he forced her into prostitution to use the \u201cmoney for food, marijuana, and dope … would not allow her to keep any\u201d and \u201cwould punch her and beat her up,\u201d according to police. <\/p>\n
Herard admitted \u201che sells weed on the streets,\u201d was \u201chaving a sexual relationship with her,\u201d and he \u201cwanted to scare her and intimidate her,\u201d but he denied \u201cselling her for money,\u201d according to police. <\/p>\n
A detective found a video stored in Herard\u2019s cell phone showing an argument between him and the victim where he used expletives, according to a police report. <\/p>\n
\u201cWant to die, like, I told you, I am going to Voodoo, I am going to sell you for money for Haiti, and I am going to trade you for money,\u201d Herard told the victim during the recording of the video, according to police. <\/p>\n
Herard faced three charges: Human trafficking for commercial sexual activity via coercion, deriving support from the proceeds of prostitution, and battery. A judge denied him bail for the human trafficking charge. His bond for the other charges was $8,500. <\/p>\n
