MONTICELLO, Fla. (WCTV) – The Jefferson County Commission unanimously voted Thursday night to accept County Manager Shannon Metty\u2019s letter of resignation. Commissioners say the decision comes after concerns were brought to their attention.<\/p>\n
This isn\u2019t the first time Metty\u2019s job has faced scrutiny. Thursday\u2019s vote follows criticism she faced last summer over her handling of fraud allegations.<\/a><\/p>\n The commission meeting was standing room only as commissioners voted.<\/p>\n District Two Commissioner Gene Hall says his decision came after receiving letters from state officials Allison Tant, Jason Shoaf and Corey Simon.<\/p>\n \u201cWe received the letters from, and it was signed by those three state representatives, those three state elected officials I just mentioned, and they were very concerned Jefferson county was not reaching out, being assertive and aggressive to get that money and through the Florida department of commerce,\u201d Hall said.<\/p>\n More news out of the Big Bend:<\/p>\n Hall says the money could have gone toward economic, infrastructure and workforce development projects in the county.<\/p>\n \u201cWe missed out on about $15 million recently, and our surrounding peers, the other rural counties, Dixon County, Bradford County, you know, Gadsden County, these other counties, Suwannee County, Columbia County to the best of my understanding, received that money, and we certainly need that money,\u201d Hall said.<\/p>\n Shannon Metty told WCTV that during her time as county manager, she feels she did her best for the county.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve done my best to try and hold everything together, I realize I wasn\u2019t the most experienced person in the job but I know I gave it all I could and I feel like after that if they aren\u2019t happy about it, if they still want to be concerned about what some shortcomings might be even though we\u2019ve made good strides,\u201d Metty said.<\/p>\n According to Metty\u2019s resignation letter, her last day will be June 12, 2026.
