Drunk driving is a 100 percent preventable crime, and\u00a0Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)\u2019s\u00a0goal is to end impaired driving.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Celebrating its 15th anniversary, the annual event will debut its rebrand as Move With MADD &amp; MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K in 2026, reflecting expanded momentum in the fight against impaired driving and deepened community engagement. Heather\u00a0Geronemus founded Move With MADD\u00a0and MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K Founder and Chairperson\u00a0after her late father, Dr. Robert Perry Geronemus, was struck and killed by a drunk driver in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Move With MADD &amp; MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K\u00a0is a community-driven 5K that raises awareness about drunk and drugged driving and underage drinking while uniting community members around MADD\u2019s mission. Since it was established in 2011,\u00a0Move With MADD &amp; MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K\u00a0has raised more than $4.2 million that stays in the South Florida community to save lives and support victims of drunk driving, making it the most successful grassroots fundraiser in the history of MADD. Every dollar donated remains in South Florida to provide victim services and prevention education at no cost.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Festivities will include children\u2019s activities, an awards ceremony, live musical performances, and vendor\/educational booths. The event will be attended by dignitaries, including Move With MADD\u00a0and MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K Founder and Chairperson\u00a0Heather Geronemus; Honorary Chairperson Colonel Nichole Anderson, Undersheriff of Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office; Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony;\u00a0Sgt. Ryan Clifton from Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office; Sgt. Trevor Thomas from Fort Lauderdale Police Department\u2019s DUI Unit; and Lt. Indiana Miranda from Florida Highway Patrol.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>MADD is committed to leading prevention efforts with young adults, collaborating with law enforcement to keep roads safe from impaired drivers, as well as advocating for stricter sentencing and stronger laws, including the HALT Law that mandates anti-drunk driving technology in every new car. MADD continues to provide support services to victims and survivors of impaired driving at no charge through victim services specialists and the 24-Hour Victim Help Line.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat began as a local walk for awareness has grown into one of the most impactful events in South Florida and the most successful grassroots fundraiser in MADD history.
