MIAMI \u2014 Just before 4 a.m. Tuesday, when most people were still fast asleep, a 13-year-old girl inside her Miami home woke up to something terrifying. <\/p>\n
There was a stranger inside her bedroom. <\/p>\n
Police said they responded to a call for an intruder inside a home on Northwest 10th Avenue in Miami.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a man that had entered her daughter\u2019s room, our officers arrived on scene by the time they got to the scene the subject was already gone,\u201d said Miami Police Officer Michael Vega. <\/p>\n
The girl\u2019s mother was too shaken up to talk on camera, but neighbor Allen Manns, who\u2019s lived there for more than 50 years, said he was stunned. <\/p>\n
\u201cShocked, didn\u2019t think that it was possible in this area because everybody is working people, everybody is friendly, everybody sticks to their own, so it was something I didn\u2019t think it would happen in this area,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
Police said the intruder used a back gate to gain access to the property, walked through their yard, possibly using a ladder or bench, and minutes later was inside the room of the family\u2019s teenage daughter. <\/p>\n
The intruder stole the girl\u2019s phone and wallet, police added. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis was a black male, dressed in all black, wearing a black ski mask,\u201d said Vega. <\/p>\n
Officers were seen dusting off a window, hoping a fingerprint will point them to the intruder.<\/p>\n
The girl\u2019s mother said she tracked her daughter\u2019s stolen phone and found it dumped a few blocks away, inside a trash can. <\/p>\n
Officers said they also analyzed the phone for fingerprints. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the perfect time for everyone to check their homes, make sure that every window is locked,\u201d said Vega. \u201cAlso, its important to have good lighting around your home, the lighting deters thieves or criminals from being seen.\u201d<\/p>\n
Miami police said they had a person detained but have yet to announce an arrest as of the time of this story\u2019s publication. <\/p>\n
