ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Historic Kenwood\u2019s 27th annual BungalowFest Home Tour<\/a> returns Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., to celebrate the neighborhood\u2019s centennial. <\/p>\n

While online ticket sales have ended, tickets can be bought for $40 in person throughout the day at St. Petersburg High School, which is also celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. <\/p>\n

As a bonus, students are offering tours of the high school, the first million-dollar high school in the country, Flor Vergara, a volunteer with the Historic Kenwood Neighborhood Association, told Patch. <\/p>\n

From the high school, those touring the neighborhood can follow the map given to them and stroll the area at their own pace or hop on the Jolley Trolley, which will take them to each destination. <\/p>\n

This year, as a nod to Historic Kenwood\u2019s centennial anniversary, all homes on the tour \u2014 mostly Craftsman bungalows \u2014 will range from 97 to 106 years old, reflecting the neighborhood\u2019s architectural charm, character and history. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe want people to experience that history. That\u2019s what we\u2019re really focusing on. That\u2019s what Historic Kenwood is,\u201d Vergara said. \u201cIt\u2019s history. It\u2019s a community neighborhood. It\u2019s art and taking care of your neighbors, and inviting people to come and see how we live.\u201d<\/p>\n

Because the neighborhood is also an artist enclave, each home has been paired with a local artist whose work will be on display throughout that property. Murals throughout the route will be highlighted as well, she said. <\/p>\n

\u201cArt is a big part of what Kenwood is. Kenwood is artists, too. It\u2019s a love for art and a support for art,\u201d Vergara said. \u201cWe have artists involved with the neighborhood because they are the neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n

There are several other special events throughout the day. An accessible dwelling unit sponsored by CASK Construction will be selling beer and hot dogs. TitlePilot is also sponsoring an area to have beverages and Winter Pride will be hosting a backyard bash at one of the homes. <\/p>\n

“It’s 100 years, right? So, we wanted it to be extra special. All of this makes it extra special,” Vergara said. <\/p>\n

All proceeds from BungalowFest will support Historic Kenwood\u2019s many neighborhood projects, including its Tree Program, Garden Workshop, Compassion Project, Kenwood Kids, the Historic Kenwood Partnership that helps neighbors maintain their property\u2019s exterior, the PSTA Transit program and the Kenwood Salvage Garage. <\/p>\n

The neighborhood association is also launching a centennial plaque that will be available to qualifying homes in the area to purchase.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ST.
