TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A resident has burn injuries after a mobile home in South Tallahassee caught fire early Saturday morning, according to a Tallahassee Fire Department press release.<\/p>\n
The fire department received the report of a structure fire on Great Lakes Street at about 2:54 a.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n
A single-wide mobile home was partially on fire when crews arrived. <\/p>\n
The home\u2019s sole resident was reportedly inside the home at the time of the fire but was outside with burn injuries when TFD crews arrived.<\/p>\n
TFD said they started taking out the fire from the exterior and transitioned to the inside of the structure. It took about 10 minutes to get the fire under control and 30 minutes to be extinguished, according to TFD. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe fire was located in the living room and is believed to be electrical in nature,\u201d TFD said.<\/p>\n
The home is a \u201ctotal loss,\u201d according to the local fire department and there were no additional residents or pets in the home. <\/p>\n

The resident was hospitalized and the American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced resident, per TFD.<\/p>\n
The fire department reminded residents of winter electrical safety.<\/p>\n
The Tallahassee Fire Department reminds residents to use space heaters with caution, keep them at least three feet away from combustible materials, and never plug them into extension cords or power strips. Have damaged cords, overloaded outlets, or flickering lights inspected to help reduce the risk of electrical fires.<\/p>\n
TFD was assisted on scene by the Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County EMS, City of Tallahassee Utilities and the American Red Cross.<\/p>\n
