The new owner of International Plaza in Tampa is giving the mall a multimillion-dollar face-lift.<\/p>\n
Simon Property Group announced on Feb. 4 that it would invest $250 million into elevating three of its shopping centers across the U.S., including International Plaza, located at 2223 N. Westshore Blvd.<\/p>\n
A 50,000-square-foot exterior expansion will create a new \u201cwalkable outdoor shopping experience.\u201d \u201cBaystreet\u201d \u2014 a section of the mall which features a variety of sit-down restaurants \u2014 will get a new outdoor dining and gathering space.<\/p>\n
The rest of the mall will get a fresh new design with upgraded amenities and \u201ccurated hospitality experiences,\u201d according to a media release.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis investment reflects Simon\u2019s focus on strategic redevelopments to create vibrant, modern environments that cater to today\u2019s shopper,\u201d said Eli Simon, Chief Operating Officer.<\/p>\n
The Indianapolis-based company acquired an 80% stake in International Plaza from Taubman Centers in 2020. In November, it bought out Taubman, becoming the mall\u2019s sole owner.<\/p>\n
Construction is expected to begin sometime this year.
