TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida State University students joined a nationwide effort to end homelessness by participating in the second annual Winter Walk.<\/p>\n
Ella Wiese, community service chair for the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy Student Leadership Council, said the initiative began in another state.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt started in Boston, and in Boston they would walk in the cold to remind us how fortunate we are to have homes and clothing, so we do that here in Tallahassee for the Kearney Center,\u201d Wiese said.<\/p>\n

Dozens of students walked nearly two miles across FSU\u2019s campus to raise awareness and funds for people experiencing homelessness in the Big Bend. <\/p>\n
All money raised in Tallahassee will support the Kearney Center\u2019s emergency services and case management programs, according to the Kearney Center.<\/p>\n
The Tallahassee walk is part of a national series of events held in major cities across the country.<\/p>\n
Wiese said the group has raised about $4,000 so far through fundraising efforts. The student-led group has also partnered with Vice Society in Collegetown, where a portion of the proceeds through March will benefit The Kearney Center.<\/p>\n
