Signing up a youngster for voluntary pre-kindergarten in Leon County used to be a challenge. But now the district has simplified the process and also tripled the number of children who can enroll.<\/p>\n
Instead of the old process of making in-person appointments to register a child at the district’s early learning office, Program Director Brooke Brunner said everything can be done online.<\/p>\n
“They will either generate a new parent portal Focus account. Or, if they already have a student who attends a Leon County school, they’re just going to add their pre-K child.”<\/p>\n
Not only has signup been simplified, but Brunner said far more students can now enroll in the county’s VPK program.<\/p>\n
“In Leon County this year, we only had enough seats for about 300 VPK students. And in this new model, that will increase significantly to more than 900 seats available.”<\/p>\n
