The main Leon County Public Library held a Black History Month Read-In on Saturday. Dozens of young people and their families heard stories by African-American authors read aloud by community members.<\/p>\n
One of those readers was Library Director Pam Moore. She read JaNay Brown-Wood’s epic: “Shhhhh: The Baby’s Asleep” with some help from her young audience.<\/p>\n
“Everybody! Shhhhhh…the baby’s asleep!”<\/p>\n
County Commissioner Carolyn Cummings’ book was – appropriately enough – about libraries.<\/p>\n
“And this book is by Nikki Giovanni who is an African-American female writer and college professor.”<\/p>\n
And County Assistant Administrator Shington Lamy’s pick concerned a young man named Issac who loves the rain.<\/p>\n
“One by one they filed in, finding warmth and refuge inside. But not Issac!”<\/p>\n
The Rickards High School Swinging Raider Jazz Band provided music for the occasion.
