JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 Publix Pharmacy is now providing savings on select GLP-1 therapies<\/a> through a new discount card program.<\/p>\n

Eligible customers can fill prescriptions for the recently introduced Wegovy (semaglutide) tablets at prices starting as low as $149 per month. Injectable forms of Wegovy and Ozempic (semaglutide) are also available starting at $199 per month.<\/p>\n

Customers interested in the reduced pricing can speak directly with a Publix pharmacist to learn more about the offer details, current pricing, and additional ways to reduce out-of-pocket costs for these and other prescription medications.<\/p>\n

Drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy<\/a> mimic the naturally occurring hormone GLP-1, which the body produces in the small intestine to control blood sugar levels, digestion and appetite. <\/p>\n

The drugs are part of a new generation of obesity medications known as GLP-1 receptor agonists that have soared in popularity in recent years.<\/p>\n

Around 12% of U.S. adults were taking GLP-1 medications as of November to lose weight or treat a chronic condition like diabetes, according to a study by the Kaiser Family Foundation.<\/p>\n

President Donald Trump unveiled a deal in November with drugmakers Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk to expand coverage and reduce prices for their popular obesity treatments, which include Zepbound and Wegovy.<\/p>\n

But access to the drugs has been a consistent problem for patients because of their cost \u2014 around $500 a month for higher doses \u2014 and insurance coverage<\/a> has been spotty.<\/p>\n

Coverage of the drugs for obesity will expand to Medicare patients starting next year, according to the administration, which said some lower prices also will be phased in for patients without coverage. <\/p>\n

\u201c(It) will save lives, improve the health of millions and millions of Americans,\u201d said Trump, in an Oval Office announcement in which he referred to GLP-1s as a \u201cfat drug.\u201d<\/p>\n
