For those who still lament the passing of Tanqueray\u2019s and its vibrant live music calendar, there\u2019s a new night at the corner set to summon up Tanq\u2019s eclectic spirit downtown. The weekly night ChemLab at the Corner \u2014 a hop, skip, and jump from the old Tanqueray\u2019s \u2014 launches this week and is set to feature live music from familiar local faces like the O\u2019Gilvie Trio, Mr. Martini, Ancient Sun and United Groove.<\/p>\n

This Thursday, Feb. 12, ChemLab launches at 9 p.m. with drink specials from sponsor Tito\u2019s and a stacked lineup that includes Black Heart Society, Emily Rose, O\u2019her Majesty, Analyia, Asa Vuitton and Museigen. Successive weeks will see the event starting at 10 p.m. and featuring local favorites from the freewheeling Tanqueray\u2019s calendar.<\/p>\n

Indira Sassone, a promotions associate at The Block<\/a> who co-created the concept with Amy Sanfellipo, says they came up with the name because they \u201cwanted to go with something that inspired chemistry, like making a reaction.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso, our tagline is \u2018people plus music equals reaction,’\u201d adds Sassone. The Block is the cluster of clubs at the intersection of North Orange Avenue and East Washington Street that includes The Corner, Patio, Aero, 64 North, The Social, and Beacham.<\/p>\n
