And things already picked up on Wednesday morning; between countless bullpens and even live at-bats, the sounds of baseball are flowing for the Mets.

Without further ado, let us dive into the day that was in Port St. Lucie!

Bullpen Work

As a former baseball player myself, the process at the beginning of the season is always the most important. Whether it is from the pitching side or the hitting side, how a player approaches their craft early on can dictate how a season goes, whether good or bad.

When it comes to the Mets, their pitchers are already diving into their process as camp kicks into high gear. Freddy Peralta, one of New York’s premium offseason additions, continued his process with some flat groundwork at the beginning of practice. Even without “real” mound work, the standout pitcher ran through some of his pitches and was working to get a good feel on what he was throwing.

RHP Freddy Peralta getting work in on the official report day for pitchers and catchers. Going through another stage of a routine. pic.twitter.com/Gd3hyVx27a

— Brandyn Pokrass (@BPok24) February 11, 2026

Other pitchers on New York’s roster ran through true bullpens over the course of the day, too. Jonah Tong looked smooth throwing off the mound, while Devin Williams displayed easy velocity and extremely clean mechanics. More pitchers, such as Austin Warren, Craig Kimbrel, and Luke Weaver, also got their work in on the mound.

My favorite bullpen of the day came from standout starting pitcher Nolan McLean. Working with multiple coaches, the pitcher worked on attacking left-handed hitters with his arsenal and laying the foundation of implementing a plan against them. It is extremely cool to see this process play out in person, especially this early in the season. For a pitcher that already found so much success in 2025, seeing the dedication to the craft from McLean should be a great sign for New York fans.

Cool stuff from ST: RHP Nolan McLean working on attacking left-handed batters during his bullpen with some coaches. Always love the process that goes into pitching, and this is just a small glimpse into that. pic.twitter.com/8na4vjOhYX

— Brandyn Pokrass (@BPok24) February 11, 2026

Live AB Takeaways

Across multiple fields, pitchers and hitters for the Mets went toe to toe for the first time this spring. And, as always, there were some takeaways from them, even though they are not as “sticky” as they will likely be later in camp.

Christian Scott, for being sidelined for so long, looked very comfortable on the mound right off the bat. His velocity was effective, generating multiple swings and misses over the course of his live at-bats. Scott had some bite on his other offerings, keeping hitters guessing at the plate. For a first “outing,” I was very impressed by Scott. Keep an eye on him going forward in the spring.

Good stuff from Christian Scott in Live BP. Liked the velocity and location for the most part, and he generated some swing and miss throughout his session. pic.twitter.com/CdmHbsCMNS

— Brandyn Pokrass (@BPok24) February 11, 2026

Mark Vientos had one of the best swings of the day, launching a ball to deep left field. I am interested to see how his swing decisions look this spring and what improvements he has made coming off a bit of a rough 2025 season.
Ryan Lambert showed some nice juice on his fastball today, generating some whiffs over the course of multiple at-bats.
Carson Benge did not start his at-bats on a great note, swinging through multiple fastballs. However, he showed improvement later in the day, finishing his last two at-bats with very solid contact early in the count. Benge also displayed good vision at the plate, rarely chasing bad locations. How that comfort and contact improve over the course of the spring will likely dictate Benge’s location to start the season.

Good stuff from Christian Scott in Live BP. Batting against lefty Connor Ware, the first baseman/outfielder finished his day with a frozen rope to right field. Add in another really good at-bat earlier in the day, and Clifford is a player I have circled to watch through the rest of camp.

Notes from Mendoza‘s Presser

At Carlos Mendoza’s Wednesday press conference, the Mets’ manager confirmed that Francisco Lindor does have a left Hamate injury and will undergo surgery. However, Mendoza remains optimistic about the shortstop’s return before Opening Day.

“Knowing Lindor, I am not going to bet against him. This is a guy that has played through broken toes and a lower back injury two years ago where he could barely walk. We are still optimistic that he is going to be available for us on Opening Day, but we will have to wait and see.”

Additionally, Mendoza said he is optimistic Lindor will be the same player right away when he gets back. He mentioned that the team “will be able to do a lot of different things” to keep the shortstop in shape, whether it is running or throwing.

Mendoza confirmed that the top three of the order, barring injury, will be Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Bo Bichette, in that order. The Mets’ manager also added that Ronny Mauricio is “fully healthy” and said that Kodai Senga can be a key piece for them, but that he “needs to be healthy.”

Editor’s note: In addition to Brandyn, we had MMO photographer Ed Delany and MMO writer Alexis Farinacci at the workouts on Wednesday.
