Omni Fort Lauderdale, the brand\u2019s flagship outpost in Greater Fort Lauderdale<\/a>, opened in mid-December, just in time for the busy Caribbean sailing season<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n Since my first cruise out of Port Everglades in 2008, I\u2019ve endured subpar hotels that, while checking off two basic requirements\u2014shuttle to the airport and port, and proximity to the port\u2014weren\u2019t anything to write home about. But the Omni\u2014with 801 guest rooms, including 82 suites, six restaurants, and a spa\u2014is a game-changer for fellow cruise travelers.\n<\/p>\n Located less than one mile from one of the world\u2019s largest cruise ports and a quick 10-minute ride from Fort Lauderdale International Airport, the resort is extremely convenient without skimping on luxury. With interior design by the Coral Gables-based EoA Group (also behind the new Salterra Resort<\/a> in the Turks and Caicos), the modern decor is a nod to Florida\u2019s diverse landscapes.\n<\/p>\n Fort Lauderdale is a yachting capital, and that theme plays out in the guest rooms, where panoramic views of the Intracoastal Waterway, seascape artworks, deep blue hues, and gold finishes elevate the spaces. (Rooms on the port side also offer cruise ship views.) Wall-length desks provide room to spread out. Some accommodations feature balconies, standalone soaking tubs, and suspended egg chairs.\n<\/p>\n The hotel’s ambitious dining offerings include an all-day restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, a high-end sports bar with Everglades-inspired interiors, and a lobby-level coffee shop that brews Miami\u2019s Panther Coffee and serves flaky guava pastelitos.\n<\/p>\n One evening, I stopped by Ibis Sky Lounge for a cinnamon roll Old-Fashioned and oysters, along with stunning 29th-floor views of glittering Fort Lauderdale. Then, I headed down to Reef 76 Kitchen & Bar for dinner, sampling a grouper sandwich and key lime pie, the perfect way to kickstart my Caribbean vacation. In the lobby, I heard a saxophonist crooning in Hidden Key, the lobby bar, home to a living greenery wall and nautical ropes repurposed as hanging art.<\/p>\n The lobby lounge.<\/p>\n David I. The 50-minute massage, visit to the Turkish-inspired hammam, quick dip in the outdoor hot tub, and a much-needed rest on a heated stone lounger helped work out the kinks after two flights the day prior.\n<\/p>\n Guests can also soak up the sun on the 10th-floor rooftop pool and deck, with poolside dining and firepits at Tide Coastal Kitchen.
