UPDATE:\u00a0The Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (CHA)<\/a> says Allegiant Airlines’ new nonstop flights to Fort Lauderdale (FLL)<\/a> have begun.<\/p>\n

Chattanooga travelers now have direct flight access to South Florida and approximately 76 destinations worldwide.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re thrilled to see Allegiant continuing to invest in Chattanooga with new nonstop service to Fort Lauderdale,” said April Cameron, CEO of the Chattanooga Airport. “This addition gives our customers more opportunities to reach South Florida and points beyond quickly and affordably, including convenient access to major cruise ports, while also making Chattanooga more accessible to visitors.”<\/p>\n

Mayor Tim Kelly says that the airport’s strong partnership with airline carriers like Allegiant means more flights coming in and out of Chattanooga, boosting the economy.<\/p>\n

“Today\u2019s inaugural flight continues the success story of one of the fastest-growing mid-sized airports in the nation.”<\/p>\n

Jim Hall, Chairman of the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Authority, agrees this new route supports tourism and business connections. “This nonstop service is a win for both our residents and our regional economy.”<\/p>\n

Spirit Airlines announced last week they would be discontinuing service<\/a> to several mid-sized cities in the U.S. due to their re-filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.<\/p>\n

Service to Chattanooga and 10 other cities will be discontinued as of October 4.<\/p>\n

That list included Chattanooga, and their decision will fully take effect on Saturday, October 4.<\/p>\n

Among other destinations, Spirit dropped non-stop flights between CHA and FLL.<\/p>\n

The center is open Tuesdays \u2013 Thursdays from 9:00am to 2:00pm.<\/p>\n

Starting next February, though, Allegiant is picking up the torch, the Chattanooga Airport says:<\/p>\n

“Flights run every Thursday and Sunday year-round (excluding fall), which means you can plan a long weekend by the beach or head south before your next cruise out of Fort Lauderdale or Miami.”<\/p>\n
