JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 Duval County Public Schools said on Thursday it is adjusting its administrative headquarters relocation plans after it received notification from Chase Properties of its intent to terminate the agreement to purchase the district\u2019s Southbank headquarters.<\/p>\n
The agreement, approved by the School Board in a 4\u20133 vote on Nov. 4, 2025, would have allowed Chase Properties to acquire the riverfront site for $17.2 million and pursue a mixed-use redevelopment including residential and commercial space.<\/p>\n

The proposed purchase included $650,000 for personal property, such as office furniture, with the remaining $13 million allocated for the building itself.<\/p>\n The purchase of Prominence Parkway also passed with a 4 to 3 vote.<\/p>\n However, as a result of Chase Properties\u2019 decision, DCPS said it has exercised its option to terminate its related purchase contract with Dream Finders Homes.<\/p>\n \u201cThese actions are consistent with the School Board\u2019s direction to avoid owning two properties simultaneously and to minimize unnecessary financial or operational overlap during any transition period,\u201d DCPS wrote in a news release.<\/p>\n PREVIOUS COVERAGE | DCPS unanimously votes not to sell current administration building; also rejects purchase of Prominence Parkway property<\/a> | DCPS headquarters staying by St. Johns River for now; district is exploring \u2018alternative relocation options\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n District officials emphasized that DCPS is reviewing appropriate next steps with a focus on fiscal responsibility, long-term operational efficiency, and stewardship of taxpayer resources, while continuing to prioritize the needs of students and staff.<\/p>\n At this time, no new timeline has been established for future proposals or decisions.
