National Caregivers Day is recognized on Feb. 20, and FISH of Sanibel-Captiva\u2019s theme for the month of February of spreading the love and loving one\u2019s neighbors is a natural fit for honoring caregivers.<\/p>\n
FISH reported that caregiving often happens behind the scenes. It can mean helping with meals, transportation, personal care, medication reminders or simply being a reassuring presence. For many seniors, caregivers make it possible to remain safe, comfortable and connected in their own homes.<\/p>\n
\u201cCaregivers are often the glue holding things together for seniors and families. On National Caregivers Day, we want caregivers to know they are valued and deeply appreciated,\u201d Senior Services Director Erika Arnowitz said. \u201cAt FISH, we\u2019re here to support them too \u2014 by helping families find reliable care, answering questions and standing by them as needs evolve.\u201d<\/p>\n
Through its Senior Services program, FISH works with seniors and their families to help navigate caregiving needs. In addition to wellness checks, home visits and socialization events, it offers referrals to a trusted list of qualified caregivers, guidance on available resources and connections to additional support services when needs change.<\/p>\n
FISH\u2019s senior programming also includes transportation coordination, food support, medical equipment for loan, Smile Boxes, workshop educational opportunities and other types of referrals to service providers. These services help seniors age in place with dignity, while reducing isolation and stress for seniors and those who care for them.<\/p>\n
