TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – While Friday and Saturday bring pleasant conditions, a major change arrives Sunday when a cold front delivers much-needed rain to the drought-stricken region.<\/p>\n
Pleasant end to the workweek<\/p>\n
A cool start to the day with temperatures in the 40s and clear to sunny skies. <\/p>\n
Expect a pleasant day with partly cloudy skies and mild temperatures. High temperatures will reach the mid to upper 70s. Areas of morning fog are possible early in the day, but conditions will clear out nicely. This is a great day to get outdoor activities done before Sunday\u2019s rain arrives.<\/p>\n
Lovely weather on Valentine\u2019s Day<\/p>\n
Saturday continues the pleasant pattern with partly to mostly sunny skies and mild weather. High temperatures will again reach the mid to upper 70s. A slight chance of a shower is possible, but most of the day should remain dry. This is your last best day for outdoor plans before the system moves in.<\/p>\n
Beneficial rain arrives Sunday<\/p>\n
A cold front will push through the region, bringing a line of showers and storms that will produce widespread rainfall.<\/p>\n
Rain Chance & Timing<\/p>\n
Showers and storms will develop as the cold front approaches Sunday and continue through the afternoon and evening. The best chance for rain will be during the afternoon and evening hours. <\/p>\n
I expect this system to bring decent totals of 1 to 1.5 inches. The rainfall is much-needed moisture for the drought-stricken Big Bend and South Georgia. <\/p>\n
Severe weather risk<\/p>\n
While most of the rain will be beneficial, a few storms in the line could be strong.<\/p>\n
The risk for strong to severe storms is LOW right now. However, the winds in the upper atmosphere will provide some extra spin, so conditions will need to be watched closely. <\/p>\n
The current expectation is that clouds and early showers will limit the instability, which in turn limits how strong storms can get. If we see clouds in the morning on Sunday, that is good news. If we get sunny skies, that would lead to a higher risk for severe storms.<\/p>\n

Marine impacts<\/p>\n
Coastal waters and the Gulf will see increased wave activity as the system moves through. <\/p>\n
Saturday easterly breeze between 10 and 15 knots, but waves will be 1 foot or less. A moderate chop on protected waters and bays.<\/p>\n
On Sunday, marine conditions will deteriorate. Waves 3 to 4 feet in the morning, becoming 4 to 8 feet in the afternoon and evening as the cold front approaches the southeast. Rough on the protected waters and bays. <\/p>\n
Looking Ahead to next week<\/p>\n
After the system exits on Monday morning, conditions will gradually improve. <\/p>\n
Highs throughout the next week will stay in the 70s in the afternoon. Lows in the 40s and 50s, which is typical for mid to late February. <\/p>\n
Rain chances are very low after Sunday\u2019s storm exits. The only weather impact looks like some morning fog returning mid to late week as onshore winds start to bring moisture back to the area. <\/p>\n
