MIAMI \u2014 Miami police arrested a 98-year-old man who they say is accused of stabbing a relative who was caring for him.<\/p>\n
Authorities say Juan Perez attacked the woman at a home near the 240 block of Southwest 18th Court, in the city\u2019s Little Havana neighborhood, just after 2 p.m. Thursday. <\/p>\n
According to an arrest report, officers responded to the home just after 2 p.m., receiving a call about a stabbing. <\/p>\n
The report stated that officers provided first aid to the victim, who was bleeding heavily, before she was transported to HCA Florida Mercy Hospital by Miami Fire Rescue. <\/p>\n
Police said the victim told them that she came to help her mother-in-law when Perez allegedly \u201cpoked\u201d her in the back. <\/p>\n
They said he then swung a knife at her, striking her left forearm. <\/p>\n
Shortly after, a struggle ensued, during which the victim was able to grab the knife and alert her mother-in-law for help. <\/p>\n
A neighbor also intervened, calling Perez\u2019s name, which allowed the victim to grab and secure the knife until officers arrived, according to the report. <\/p>\n
Perez told detectives that he and the victim got into an argument that escalated when she allegedly grabbed him. Police say the two are in-laws and have known each other for about 42 years.<\/p>\n
Investigators later found three kitchen knives in bushes outside the home. <\/p>\n
Jail records show Perez is facing one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.<\/p>\n
Authorities didn\u2019t say what the suspect and victim were arguing about before the attack. <\/p>\n
He was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was set at $15,000. He was also ordered to wear a GPS monitor and was placed on \u201ctotal lockdown\u201d by a Miami-Dade bond court judge on Friday. <\/p>\n
