The national tour of the Tony Award-winning musical has arrived at the Adrienne Arsht Center, marking the venue\u2019s 20th year of Broadway in Miami \u2014 and it\u2019s kicking off the season with sparkle, soul and plenty of style.<\/p>\n
The Wiz is taking audiences on a journey filled with courage, heart and rhythm.<\/p>\n
For one South Florida performer, that yellow brick road has led right back home.<\/p>\n
Fort Lauderdale\u2019s own Kameren Whigham, a graduate of Dillard High School\u2019s performing arts program, says joining the ensemble is a dream realized.<\/p>\n
\u201cHonestly, it\u2019s a blessing,\u201d Whigham said. \u201cIt\u2019s about honoring everyone who has believed on me before the spotlight even came and giving back.\u201d<\/p>\n
For Sheherazade Holman, who stars as Glinda, The Wiz is more than a role \u2014 it\u2019s a lifelong inspiration.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt speaks to every fa\u00e7ade of finding who you are, believing you are enough and that you can take up space in this world,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Holman grew up watching The Wiz and idolizing the women who brought it to life.<\/p>\n
\u201cI grew up with The Wiz since I was a little girl,\u201d she said. \u201cPeople like Lena Horne, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Deborah Cox did this. It\u2019s monumental. I never saw this coming. It means everything to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Whigham said audiences can expect a celebration of music, movement and meaning.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a show that\u2019s celebrating Black culture, community, love, lots of dancing, singing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Holman added that the message will stay with audiences long after the final curtain.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like the audience is going to walk out with joy,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
