Florida State University\u2019s\u00a0School of Theatre<\/a>\u00a0invites audiences\u00a0to\u00a0cut loose\u00a0this month with its production of \u201cFootloose,\u201d the high-energy musical inspired by the 1980s cult classic film.<\/p>\n

The story follows Ren McCormack, a city teenager who moves to the small town of Bomont only to find that rock music and dancing have been banned. Ren\u2019s rebellious spirit soon sparks a movement, challenging town leaders to reconsider the ban and let the local teenagers dance again.<\/p>\n

Performances run from Friday, Feb. 20, through Sunday, March 1, at the Richard G. Fallon Theatre.<\/p>\n

\u201cUltimately, \u2018Footloose\u2019 endures as a story of healing and community,\u201d said\u00a0Director Dewayne Barrett. \u201cWhen the town finally dances, it is not rebellion; it is reconciliation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The cast poses at the end of the number \u201cLet\u2019s Hear It for the Boy,\u201d in which \u201cTwo-left-feet\u201d Willard (Jadon Rhyne) gets a crash course in dancing from the Cowboys, while Rusty (Emma Kate Farlow) confides in the Cowgirls about her growing crush on him. (College of Fine Arts)The girls of Bomont unleash their wildest daydreams as they belt out the powerhouse \u201980s anthem \u201cHolding Out for a Hero,\u201d imagining the larger-than-life man they hope will sweep them off their feet. The production features a mix of the film\u2019s Oscar-nominated hits, including \u201cHolding Out for a Hero\u201d and \u201cLet\u2019s Hear It for the Boy,\u201d alongside dynamic new songs written specifically for the stage.<\/p>\n

The cast is\u00a0comprised\u00a0of FSU students Alex Minarik as Ren McCormack, James Nelson as Reverend Shaw, Ally\u00a0Babincak\u00a0as Ariel Moore and Margaret Giles as Vi Moore.<\/p>\n

The creative team includes direction and choreography by Barrett, music direction by Michael Norris, scenic design by Jesse Dreikosen, costume design by\u00a0Sungwon\u00a0An, sound design by Alroy Harry, and lighting design by Todd Wren.<\/p>\n
