A man captured the moment when\u00a0his wife was detained by federal immigration agents in Florida on Wednesday, Feb. 11<\/p>\n

Noah Lazega of Fort Lauderdale recorded a phone call between himself and his wife, Nicolth Hernandez-Lucero, during which she was stopped by agents<\/p>\n

“You’re going to come with us tonight,” an agent told Hernandez-Lucero in the recording<\/p>\n

A man captured the harrowing moment when his wife was detained by federal immigration agents in Florida.<\/p>\n

In footage obtained by NBC6 Miami<\/a>, Noah Lazega of Fort Lauderdale recorded a phone call between himself and his wife, Nicolth Hernandez-Lucero, on Wednesday, Feb. 11, during which she was stopped by agents.<\/p>\n

According to Lazega, Hernandez-Lucero, 24, was driving home on Wednesday night when she was stopped by the agents near St. Ambrose Episcopal Church in Fort Lauderdale. She immediately called her husband, who began recording the call.<\/p>\n

Lazega said that agents told his wife they were \u201cin the area running plates\u201d \u2014 and they did not respond to her question about probable cause for the stop.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo you’re going to come with us tonight,\u201d an agent told Hernandez-Lucero in the recording, per NBC6.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs there a reason that I got stopped?\u201d she asked the officer, before continuing: \u201cAm I gonna be detained?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah,\u201d the agent responded.<\/p>\n

Lazega told NBC6 that he was “in shock” as he listened to the interaction over the phone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t believe what\u2019s happening,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

According to Lazega, Hernandez-Lucero \u2014 who works as a surgical technician at an area hospital \u2014 is originally from Colombia but has lived in the United States since she was 15 years old.<\/p>\n

The couple has been together for nearly four years and tied the knot in December 2025.<\/p>\n

Lazega, who is a U.S. citizen, told the outlet that he had begun the process of helping his wife change her immigration status.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s a kind, compassionate person, selfless,\u201d Lazega added of his wife. \u201cShe helps people, saves people. She has a whole community behind her right now, rooting for her.”<\/p>\n

Hernandez-Lucero’s attorney, Justin Gould, told NBC6 that she entered the U.S. legally and has been undergoing the asylum application process with her family.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a person, once again, who entered legally, who filed a case legally as a dependent through her parents and has been in this country with no criminal record,\u201d Gould told the outlet, criticizing the immigration system.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo now it is basically everybody\u2019s illegal unless otherwise noted, and it\u2019s just not OK,\u201d Gould continued. \u201cThis is not what the president promised.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lazega spoke with Hernandez-Lucero over the phone from a Florida detention center during his interview with NBC6 \u2014 and the couple took time to say “I love you” to each other.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love you so much,\u201d he told her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love you,\u201d she replied.<\/p>\n

Lazega said he hopes to bring awareness to the difficulties of the immigration system by sharing his wife’s story.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope we can get her out, get her help, raise awareness for other people who are going through this right now. They don\u2019t deserve this. Nobody deserves this,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Hernandez-Lucero is now being held at a detention facility in Pompano Beach, Fla., and is awaiting a judge to set her first court date after Gould filed for a bond hearing.<\/p>\n

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.<\/p>\n
