TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – An occupant escaped a house fire early Tuesday morning on Jefferson Road just before it was deemed a total loss, according to the Tallahassee Fire Department.<\/p>\n
The incident unfolded just after 2 a.m. after TFD was dispatched to the report of a residential structure fire on Jefferson Road, the fire department wrote in a press release.<\/p>\n
Firefighters arrived on scene and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the kitchen area of a single-wide mobile home, according to the press release.<\/p>\n
The home was occupied at the time of the fire, but one occupant was able to escape before the arrival of emergency crews, firefighters said. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced resident,\u201d the fire department said.<\/p>\n
Moments later, crews quickly knocked down the fire and completed a primary as well as a secondary search to confirm no additional occupants were inside the home, per TFD. No pets were reported inside the mobile home.<\/p>\n
However, the home was deemed a total loss, according to firefighters.<\/p>\n
The cause of the fire is under investigation.<\/p>\n
